DAREK DYLO
Writer / Director
Writer & director based in New York City, originally from New Orleans. As the founder of Black Boots NYC, a film production company. Specializing in motion imagery, photography, art direction & visual curation, my work draws from a deep love for early cinema—silent films, the French New Wave—as well as fashion and art house influences. The goal as filmmaker is to create an intersection of narrative & fashion cinematography as my film philosophy is to blend emotionally complex stories with striking, surreal visuals that push the boundaries of what’s familiar.
In my films, I like to explore the delicate balance between visual discomfort and elegance. There’s always a tension—an edge—that’s intentionally unsettling, yet it’s wrapped in a sense of class and surreal beauty. I want my work to feel like the experience of reading a novel, where each frame reveals something new and personal, yet unfolds with the intensity and dynamic visuals of anime.
I am currently a member of Brooklyn Film Collective as well as am part of community of over 350 filmmakers in the Filmmaker Friday Community which allow from some of the leading talents in this space. My background in both writing and directing has earned me festival selections and industry attention, and my connections in the film, music, and fashion worlds allow me to pull together unique collaborations. When you watch a Black Boots film, you’re stepping into a world where high fashion meets raw emotion, creating a haunting yet beautiful harmony that stays with you long after the credits roll.
