We are beginning our artist archive investigations focusing on BIPOC artists, as they have typically been minimized by historical documentation.
Our definition of experimental is loose – process/research based, inter/multidisciplinary, inquisitive, boundary pushing – and likely to keep growing.
We open the question to you: the student, the artist, the enthusiast, the fan, the public – who do you want to see in the artist archive?
Experimental art includes valuing the process and research aspects of art making. We believe that testing, exploring, and trying new things regardless of their feasibility or success is vital to creative work.
Moving beyond genres and disciplines is key to opening up opportunities for creative insight and collaboration. We experiment using a variety of mediums and materials, including archiving of artists and their work.
Curiosity is key for the creation of art and experimental art allows space for challenging questions. We encourage artists to self-reflect and be inquisitive to develop their art practice(s) and artistic collaborations.
Experimental art is not about maintaining the status quo or creating a viable or sellable product. We encourage pushing boundaries, creating disruptive work, and interrogating established structures. The work we support intends to push comfort levels.
