Olive Shakur belongs to an association of tendencies in a mad, queer, Brown settler body. It has appeared as an elusive and mercurial utility player in creative music, noise, punk, jazz, and the institutional avant-garde over the last thirty years.
Its composition is aesthetically concerned with interrogating epistemic violence and dismantling power, favouring acoustic works with low technical and performance barriers.
Olive’s music has been featured by Arraymusic, Art Gallery of Calgary, Casse-Tete, Destroy Vancouver, FUSE, LIVE Biennale, neither/nor, Open Space, Powell Street Festival, Radio Free Stein, Western Front, VIVO, and the Vancouver Jazz Festival, among others.
Former bands include Crawling Human, The Sorrow And The Pity, Robots On Fire, The Salvos, Dark Dials, and Monk’s Dream. It currently plays in improv duo Ears of Lead and jazz quartet Big Shoulders. The noise project Guilty Of Being White By Minor Threat will debut in 2025.
