Max Ammo (they/them) is a non-binary audiovisual Latinx artist from Mexico City, now residing on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Their work spans illustration, animation, and graphic design, but in recent years, they’ve delved into music production and DJing under the aliases “Goo” and “El Ángel Exterminador.” The central threads of their audiovisual work are magic, the occult, duality, and blurred boundaries between worlds.
As Goo, they conjure soundscapes that explore dark themes, gender identity, and the spectral echoes of Latin American sound, using distorted vocals and analog instruments.
Their DJ project “El Ángel Exterminador” shares the sounds of the Latin American experimental music scene, informing their music and pushing it into more extreme territories as they integrate digital production techniques. With deep roots in the underground scenes of CDMX and Vancouver, they’ve become a relentless force in showcasing underground Latinx electronic music in Canada through curation, event organizing, and other efforts. In 2024 they created “Cadena” (with Jaijiu) and “Hechizo” projects with a focus on weaving connections from coast to coast and North to South with the hopes of creating pathways for these sounds to travel farther.
