Heather McDermid is a musician and sound artist based in the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. She is a founding member of experimental psych-noise-drone ensemble Ejaculation Death Rattle and “jugband of the damned”, The Creaking Planks. She has performed and has contributed to exhibits and events in Canada, the US, Japan, Norway and Portugal. For the past 15 years Heather has collaborated with visual artist Keith Langergraber to create animation, music and sound design for film and installations, and was the Production Manager for Langergraber’s 2021 Vancouver Art Gallery Offsite public sculpture installation, The Dusk Meridian. She holds a BA in Radio and Television Arts from Toronto Metropolitan University, and an MA from the Centre for Cross Faculty Inquiry in Education at UBC, where she engaged in arts-based research to examine the interplay between collectively run spaces, and artistic creation. She is currently Assistant Curator and Production Manager at Vancouver New Music.
