Adrian Avendaño is a Canadian sound artist, improvising percussionist and recordist based in Vancouver, Canada [stolen First Nation territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations] of Peruvian and Chilean heritage. His work explores the connection between sound, space, and place through linear and non-linear time. His contributions can be seen in a diverse array of musical and sound art performances with local and international artists.

Recent projects include performing in Roxanne Nesbitt’s experimental percussion ensembles Sonic Symbiotic and Thunderous Wondering; collaborating in Parallel 03 with ENDLINGS (Raven Chacon and John Dietriech of Deerhoof) alongside musicians of the Vancouver creative music community; participating in John Brennan’s Rudiments for Hexadrome performance and installation project; and playings drums in the LITTLES sextet. In 2023 he performed with Aquiles Navarro (Irreversible Entanglements) with Vancouver-based improvisers Lisa Cay Miller and Andromeda Monk. In 2024 he made his fourth appearance performing in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival – Innovation Series and received a professional development grant from the Canada Council of the Arts to study drumset with Pedro Ojeda (Los Propios Bateros, Los Pirañas, Romperayo, Frente Cumbiero).

He plays in Gamelan Bike Bike, Half Beast, and other projects.
