We are building an archive to document the work of experimental artists from across Canada and across disciplines in the experimental art world. The archive intends to profile artists past and present by providing bios, links, and examples of artist work to support research, learning, and documentation of experimental art in Canada.
While our archive is open to all experimental artists, our first active research component is to research and profile BIPOC artists. It is all too common to find histories of experimental art either missing or minimizing the contributions of BIPOC artists, women/non-binary artists, LGBTQ2S+ artists, and other underrepresented artists that simply did not receive recognition is other experimental art collections and accounts.
This project intends to bring attention to the genre of experimental art as well as to increase visibility of artists that may not have been profiled previously.
We are grateful for the generous support of our primary funder Canada Council for the Arts and the generous donation from our developer, Affinity Bridge.
