Wing Instrument extends x/o’s ongoing inquiry into embodied duality, where material, gesture, and sound converge in a field of sensory reflection. Suspended between gravity and air, the work operates as both instrument and counterpart: a space where vibration becomes dialogue, and touch becomes a way of listening.
Rather than articulating flight or freedom, Wing Instrument dwells in suspension, proposing stillness as an alternative form of movement. Through acts of bowing, pressure, and release, it cultivates an intimacy that is neither passive nor possessive; a negotiation between agency and surrender, between the human and the more-than-human. Its sonic materiality evokes a kinship built not on likeness, but on proximity, responsiveness, and care.
Within x/o’s broader practice spanning sound, sculpture, and performance, Wing Instrument continues an exploration of how relational gestures can transform material into subject. Resisting spectacle, the work privileges duration, vibration, and sensory attention; an attunement to how resonance persists between bodies. Here, sound becomes an ethics: a way of being with, and sounding through, the fragile architectures that tether us.
